People often feel the need to be all-or-none when it comes to their diet. Sometimes when food temptations are too much it is better to give in rather than to always deprive yourself of the foods you love. If you constantly say no to the food you love this can backfire and lead to binge eating. What I find works best is to use the 80/20 rule. Eighty percent of the time make good, healthful food choices, but allow yourself 20% of the time to eat moderate portions of the foods you want.
If there is an office party and someone brought in brownies that are calling your name. Take a moderate portion of the brownie, sit down, and eat it slowly. Make sure you taste and enjoy every bite of the brownie. Let it melt slowly in your mouth and savor it. Most importantly don’t feel guilty about it afterward! It is important to have a healthy relationship with food that does not include guilt.
