Exploring LGBTQ Family Building Options

Parenthood can be one of life’s greatest joys and we believe that happy families come in many forms. The Fertility Centers of New England is committed to helping you create a healthy family regardless of your marital status, sexual orientation, or gender identity by providing the individualized expertise you need and the compassionate support you deserve. Children thrive in families where they are loved and cared for. We are here to help you grow that family.

Lesbian Family Building

We are here to guide you through your sperm donor options and maximize your chances of success, whether via intrauterine insemination, ovulation induction with fertility medications, or IVF. Sperm donors may be anonymous, a friend, or a family member. Couples who both seek a biological connection to the child can select a sperm donor from a male relative of one partner to be used for insemination in the other partner.

Lesbian couples also have the option of Partner Assisted Reproduction (PAR) or Reciprocal IVF, where the eggs from one partner are harvested and fertilized, and then transferred into the other partner to carry the baby. This procedure gives both partners another way to share in the family building experience.

Gay Family Building

Donor eggs and surrogacy, or a gestational carrier, is an option for men seeking to grow their family. The process includes the insemination of a donated egg or oocyte and the transfer of the resulting embryo to a recipient’s uterus. A gestational carrier will become pregnant through IVF but is not genetically related to the embryo. Couples have the option of using donor eggs from the relative of one partner, and sperm from the other partner, so that each has a biological connection to the child.

Trans Family Building

Whether you’d like to start a family soon or down the road, we can help you explore your options. Trans men can delay parenthood and preserve the ability to have a genetically related child through egg freezing technology. Surrogacy and donor eggs are another path toward parenthood, and may be done together or independently depending on your needs.
